This meeting is being held at St. Michael’s Hospital, in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute (LKSKI) on Nov 30 and December 1, 2023. This meeting will bring together national and international heart rhythm specialists, genetic counsellors, medical geneticists, nurse practitioners, family physicians, coroners, medical examiners, scientists, policymakers and patients/families of patients with lived experience, to exchange knowledge, build partnerships and prioritize unanswered research questions that will form the basis of a grant application or implementation project.
About this meeting
The goal is to accelerate knowledge through collaboration to optimize care and outcomes for individuals and their families living with potentially heritable cardiac diseases. Our team will identify and prioritize key research questions related to the barriers in accessing and receiving clinical and genetic assessment, screening, diagnosis and treatment of potentially heritable cardiac diseases. This planning meeting will foster innovative, interdisciplinary research-based collaborations, as we work towards local and national solutions for barriers to accessing care. In addition, the identification of the barriers and potential mitigation strategies will inform the development of interventions designed to provide equitable access to cascade screening and preventative therapies, regardless of geography or ethnicity, to be implemented and rigorously evaluated in a future grant application.
